Goals
The goal of this course is to enhance each student's English language arts abilities as well as the student's overall high school success. We continue learning and building on our ability to read and write. Attendance is crucial to ensure success for each student. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 3:00 pm except board approved holidays until November 6,2007 at which time your student will again attempt to pass the California High School Exit Exam in English Language Arts.. (We will be meeting during onsite and PLP meeting days.) Putting into practice the research done by Jim Trelease, I will be reading to your student every day to enhance each individuals reading comprehension skills.

Expectations

1. Respect the teacher, students, and property in class.( Treat others the way you want to be treated.)

2. Be prepared daily with binder containing planner, writing implement, and completed homework.

3. Be on Time

Overview: Welcome to your CAHSEE English.  This lab class will serve to Prepare you for the CAHSEE ELA Test by learning through reading, discussion, workbook assignments, group/individual work, and writing.   

Materials: You must come to class prepared to learn and participate.  You must have your workbook, paper and writing materials.  Keep all your class materials in your DCHS binder.

Attendance: Attendance and participation is the key to your success.  An assignment will be due at the end of each Lab session   Missed assignments on lab days may be made-up for full credit with an excused absence and for half credit if unexcused.  Excused absences will require a note from your E.C.

Grading: 
Attendance and participation =25%
Tests, quizzes, Final=25%
Workbook Assignments=25%
Writing Assignments = 25%
You will NOT pass this class if you do not take the CAHSEE English Exam.

Assignment Requirements:
1. All writing assignments require proper heading: See Lab Assignment Format Guide (below).
2. All outside assignments must be typed and run through www.turnitin.com to insure academic integrity (turnitin.com report is to be printed out and submitted with final draft to teacher).
3. Lab assignments are due at the end of the lab outside assignments are due when posted.
4. If in-class assignments are illegible, teacher may take a copy and have student type the work out of class and return it for full credit.
