Spanish 1

You are about to enter the wonder world of Spanish!  Learning a new language can be fun, challenging, but ultimately very rewarding.  Spanish is not only beautiful, but also very practical language to learn, with nearly half a billion people speaking Spanish in over 30 countries and territories around the world.

Sections:

The sections for the 2007-2008 school year are as follows:

  • Section 1 (E129.1) Mondays 1:00-1:55pm
  • Section 2 (E129.2) Tuesdays 1:00-1:55pm
  • Section 3 (E129.3) Wednesdays 11:00-11:55pm

Attendance:

DO NOT BE ABSENT.  You are encouraged to attend all classes because we only have one day per week together.  Our language learning process builds off of previous lessons so it is imperative to participate in each lab.  Your attendance will have a direct effect on your grade.

Tests and Quizzes:

  • We will have quizzes in class that will make up about 30% of your grade.  The main part of your assessment will be done in Powerglide.  The in-class quizzes will correspond to what you are doing in Powerglide.  If a test is missed, it is the sole responsibility of the student to arrange a make-up time and date.

 Powerglide:

  • Powerglide is the online program you will be using to complete assignments.
  • Spanish 1A Students must complete days 1 through 90 by December 21, 2007 (Powerglide).
  • Spanish 1B Students must complete days 91 through 180 by December 21, 2007 (Powerglide).
  • Students must regularly attend scheduled labs and complete class assignments.

Classroom Behavior:

I have three basic rules in my classroom.  After school detention or other disciplinary action may be used if a student does not comply.

  1. BE RESPECTFUL
  2. DO NOT DISRUPT CLASS
  3. FOLLOW THE SCHOOL RULES

Grading:

The point of this class is not for me to give you a grade.  You are here to learn.  Your coursework and tests are designed to assess how well you have learned the material.  Grading is based on a point system.  Points are earned by showing up to lab and turning in the assignments complete at the end of each period.  Students will be given an overall grade based on the following components and corresponding percentages:
Attendance and Participation                       20%
Powerglide (Online) overall grade              50%
Quizzes & Tests                                             30%

The grades will done according to the following scale:

A         -           89.5 – 100%

B          -          79.5 – 89.4%

C         -           69.5 – 79.4%

D         -           59.5 – 69.4%

F          -           below 59.5%
